I fell victim to the “viral video” scam yesterday. Our agency in the UK produced one and sent it along (via Facebook e-mail, of all places) to ask me to include it in my “group”. I put it on my blog instead. In a moment of weakness, I congratulated the regional marketing department for getting something done. 35 comments later, it’s clear that the latest “viral video” tick box is a failure. But hey, it’s had 800 views on YouTube in 24 hours, what a hit!!!

Love the no words post. I tried a no bullets investor presentation. They didn’t get it, or the company I pitching for that matter.

@Ed 800 “crap I watched that p.o.s.” clicks? Just think if qualitative metrics joined the quantitative metrics. Marketing would be interesting then, eh? ;)

Problem with being leading edge is that everyone is behind you! The vast majority of businesspeople just don’t get it. They’re comfortable in their zone and won’t get out until they are forced out due to a drop in market share. Reacting to a loss allows them to invest heavily to recapture share. It seems harder to get them to spend to ensure that they don’t lose share in the first place!

I can hear the dull roar just looking at it.

Awesome Sam. What application are you using for “Social Monitoring”?

@Jeremy, I use free apps. Yahoo pipes, netvibes. Homegrown stuff. No need for more right now.
