The Enterprise UI Summit

Some of you might have caught wind of The Enterprise UI Summit, which is an event that we’re sponsoring next month. I know I’ve received a lot of questions about it, so I thought I’d put together a quick post.

Productivity Software meets Consumer Software

A while ago I posted about how productivity software should learn from game design. The consumer web UI/UX can evolve much faster than Enterprise Software because it’s easy for everyone to see the products and riff off of them, borrowing the best of one idea and then taking it to the next level. But Enterprise Software only gets cleaned up a couple of times a decade and it’s all behind closed doors. All that is changing now, thanks to Social Software quickly getting traction inside big companies. And these companies understand that user adoption key to success. User Interface and Experience Design is at the heart of that.

A practical think tank

We’ve invited the top UI/UX designers in the world to meet with the top companies in the world. The companies we’ve invited will be (1) a mix of executives who have been driving Social Software change; (2) the top people responsible for traditional Enterprise Software UI (from places like SAP, Adobe, EMC, etc); and (3) top UI/UX designers. The forum will allow for all of these people to share their challenges from end user, Enterprise UI design and Consumer UI design perspectives. It should be interesting to hear from companies like John Deere, Nike, etc about just how challenging their work environments really are.

Expected output

We hope that everyone walks away with deeper connections and perspectives of the challenges of evolving the UI within the Enterprise. There should be a good amount of presentations and ideas we will be able to share via videos and blogs, so keep an eye out mid-August for that.
