None of them do it for me. Perhaps if the b was much larger and capitalized?
gBa
No?

I prefer the top row — where the “nodes” connect on the “boogie-line”. Sends a subtle message of connection. It could be more sublte though. I prefer blue and gun to green or red. If you go with gun then I’d make the boogie-line somewhat lighter grey.
Less Design (with a big D), more simplicity. Not at all clear what the letters are, let alone what they stand for.
1. The “G” needs a bigger tail. Currently it looks like those Portuguese letters with the little backwards apostrophes on the bottom or the top or something.
2. I would definitely eliminate the candidates on the bottom row — put holes in the middle of your letters.
3. Nothing about the logo says go bigger, let alone go bigger always. What gradients could you introduce that would visually cue us to this extremely important concept?
4. I would vote against color gradients. In looking at your candidates above that have color gradients, it somehow doesn’t work for me. Can’t tell you why.
5. Why do you think you need a logo at all? Your logo = Sam.
6. You have the seeds of good logo thinking in the prior artwork you’ve done for your blog. The octopus, for example. Clear, distinctive. If I see a stylized octopus, it’s associated in my head with Monsieur Lawrence. End of story.
@philiphodgen
None of these speak to me. GBA is about being friendly, this is too techie. but could make a good tattoo for the CMO of Jive.
I don’t like them. They’re stylish, yes, but they’re inscrutable. Logos need to communicate an idea; they introduce someone, in this case, GBA. But it’s hard to make an introduction if your hip pose seals your lips and forces you to mumble.
I would ask the designer to take another spin. The letters need to be immediately recognizable: G B A.
Another thought: this design doesn’t really convey going big, does it? It seems tight and constrained.
Just looked at your designer’s other logo work. Very nice! And very readable. I would bring to bring some of that verve here. “Go Big Always” should be able to get a clear, dynamic treatment.
I don’t like any of them
Good comments, everyone. Really appreciate the feedback so far.
I think that the G needs to be bigger, and that it also really resembles the Greyboy All-Stars old logo (http://images.jambase.com/merch/greyboy_live.jpg).
Ocean – Boogie Line.
But I’d also suggest making the G and B tails more prominent. I understand the ‘cute’ factor of having the extensions small/skinny to both of those letters but enlarging it a little bit would help, IMO.
Probably the top row if I were to choose but none of them work for me. Its not “happy” or friendly enough – too techie. I can’t connect with any of them.
Are you the new front man for the Greyboy Allstars?
Whoa boy, Sam, guess this one didn’t go over too well. I thought our idea was aesthetics and the irony in the name.
wow – there are some very opinionated people about the logo.
i actually like these designs quite a lot. i like hole punch – ocean.
yeah, hole punch ocean is pretty interesting, but really Sam I know you can do better.
I think you were given too narrow a range by your designer. These are all essentially the same. As people don’t like these, there is nothing else to choose from at the moment.
One specific suggestion is that the ascenders and descenders, ( the parts that stick up, or hand down from a letter ) are too weak, and don’t feel part of the overall letterform. I hope this was helpful.
I don’t care for any of them.
none of these do it for me either
personally I think that they all fail to deliver the message. your original logo does it all with an explicit statement. gba (go big always)
don’t screw up a great idea by trying to get cute with the letters. I think what’s there is raw, easily understandable, and messing around with the logo to where people don’t immediately recognize the letters actually defeats the value of the message. you either get it or you don’t.
go big always
