Thanks for the great post and favorable review of Summize, Sam. We're working very hard at Summize to exceed people's (tweeple's?) expectation on what a state-of-the-art twitter search engine should be. We are rolling out new innovative features on a near daily basis, so please check back often to see what we're up to.

Great post... haven't seen Summize yet - checking it out now.
We're all still so hooked on Twitter!

I think the simple answer to your question about why Google hasn't built a search for Twitter yet may just be that they are in the camp who believes that Twitter is still on the bubble when it comes to survivability or not. As it has yet to monetize, has had stability issues, and has seemingly divided into two very different camps (those who use it obsessively v. those who use it 'averagely') I understand where they might hesitate.

After all, the 'average' Twitter user tweets 3x a day and follows <10 people according to Ev & Biz. So why would those folks want/need a search engine for it?

It is the 'power users' who keep the drive for the new API tools going and currently, we are in the minority.

I agree with @jstorerj that Twitter may indeed be the 'gateway drug' for social media...and I see huge advantages to something like this in the enterprise...so the real question is: Why does Jive not have a micro-blogging tool?!?
