3 Tips For Keeping The Bugs Away When Traveling To A Hot And Humid Destination

Travel to a hot, humid destination can be a great way to beat the winter blues. However, when visiting a place like this, you still don’t want to be eaten alive by bugs. But in many hot, humid places, bugs can be seemingly everywhere, even in places where they really shouldn’t be. Luckily, there are things you can do to keep these nuisances to a minimum.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for keeping the bugs away when traveling to a hot and humid destination.

Stay In Well Maintained Accommodations

Regardless of where you’re visiting, one of the best ways that you can keep bugs from bugging you, especially when you’re indoors, is to choose your accommodations wisely.

Ideally, you should call the places you’re considering staying and ask about what measures they take to keep bugs at bay. Inquire about things like pest control services and how often they get them, if there are screens on the windows, and overall how well maintained the property is. While doing your research, you might want to also check reviews from other guests to see if they mentioned pests and bugs being a problem. If they did, you could bring up these negative reviews when you call the accommodations and see if any measures have been taken to fix those issues.

Make Use Of Nets

If there isn’t going to be a way to keep bugs away from you with other barriers, using nets might be an option.

While it can potentially be unsafe to sleep with bug nets around you, if you simply can’t sleep with all the creepy crawlies around, having a net above your bed might be the best option. And when you’re outside, you can use nets that attach to a hat to keep bugs away from your face. While this isn’t the most attractive option, you may be able to look past this after you’ve been swatting bugs away from your face for the last 30 minutes.

Reapply Bug Spray When You Reapply Sunscreen

Bug spray is another great way to discourage bugs from being around you or biting you if they get close. However, spraying yourself with bug spray in the morning before you leave likely won’t be enough.

Especially if you’re getting hot and sweaty, bug spray can easily come off of your skin. Additionally, the salt on your skin can make bugs more attracted to you. To combat this, think about bug spray as you do sunscreen and reapply every few hours. When the time comes to put more sunscreen on, add some more bug spray, too.

If you’re going to be traveling to a hot and humid destination and you’re worried about bugs, consider using the tips mentioned above to help keep them away from you.

Best Live Music Venues In The U.S.

Everyone loves a good show, and live music is becoming harder and harder to enjoy in a post pandemic world. If you’re going to go out to a live show, it’s important that you make each instance the best choice possible.

The venue has everything to do with whether or not you’re going to have an excellent musical experience along the way. Take a moment to read a little about some of the best live music venues in the U.S., and choose your next show tickets wisely.

The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN

If you really want an intimate concert from your favorite artist, try getting tickets to see them at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The Grand Ole Opry called the Ryman its home for more than 30 years, and the venue is still a very popular place to visit.

There’s a long list of notable performers who have graced the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, including Wu-Tang Clan, Johnny Cash, and Neil Young. Given that Nashville has tons of other notable places to visit, checking out the Ryman Auditorium is definitely worth your time.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Las Vegas, NV

The Walt Disney Concert Hall opened its doors in the early 2000s, and it was set in motion by the late film genius’ wife, Lillian Disney. She wanted something built in LA to honor her husband.

Since its doors have opened, the Walt Disney Concert Hall has hosted the popular show, Glee, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and The LA Master Chorale. You won’t be disappointed at the design or the quality sound in this venue.

The Caverns in Pelham, TN

This venue is inside a cave, so steer clear if you have issues with claustrophobia. Otherwise, who doesn’t want to see a concert inside of a cavern? The venue is just cool, literally and figuratively speaking.

The venue isn’t huge, seating just about 750 people, making it one of the more intimate venues for live music. The sound and how it moves around the walls of this ancient cave are two things you simply don’t want to miss.

The Red Rocks Amphitheater in Red Rock, Colorado

The Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado was founded in the early 1900s. It’s been producing quality music for more than a century, and today’s most popular artists know what these rocks can do.

The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Phish have all played live at the Red Rock Amphitheater. There was a short span of time when concerts were banned at the venue, but that is not the case now.

This venue is unique and built naturally by the surrounding landscape. Take the time to consider Red Rock when choosing your next concert outing.

Inspiration for the Perfect Landscape Design

Most people appreciate scenic views, and this is part of the reason people invest in landscaping. Landscaping refers to customizing yards, parks, and other outdoor spaces to add visual appeal.

Some people invest in landscaping to increase their enjoyment of their property. Since homeowners typically recoup all the money they invest in landscaping when they sell their property, many improve their yards before listing their property for sale. Whatever your reason, you can turn to the sources explored here for inspiration when you’re looking for the perfect landscape design.

Check out professionally landscaped yards.

img

Landscape architects are experts with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture and a license. These experts develop site designs, and they prepare budgets for their clients. They develop design plans for outdoor locations such as yards, parks, playgrounds, and school campuses.

Consulting a professional landscape designer in Dallas is a great way to inspire your landscaping project. Hiring an expert ensures they’ll consider the soil at the site and choose foliage suited to the environmental conditions. Reviewing their project gallery is a great way to articulate your preferences, mainly if you aren’t familiar with landscaping terms and plant names. Your landscape designer’s objective is to develop a custom design that fits the way you intend to use your outdoor space, and they’ll draw on their years of experience to satisfy your needs.

Drive around your neighborhood.

img

Spend time driving around your neighborhood or city, pay attention to outdoor spaces that draw your attention, and make notes about what sets them apart from less appealing outdoor spaces. It’s also a good idea to drive by properties for sale to determine which homes have good curb appeal to help you come up with ideas if you plan to list your home.

You may discover you’re drawn to specific flowers or trees. Taking photos of foliage you like can help you identify the plants when it comes time to start work on your project.

Build your design plan around the plants you like.

img

Check out online horticultural sites and explore the plants they sell. Houseplants and outdoor plants make great living gifts, and perusing popular options can help you identify plants you find appealing. Also, consider the plants suited to your climate. Some plants need high temperatures while others thrive in cooler temperatures.

You can also refer to horticultural sites to learn about each plant’s care needs. You’ll need different plants for areas that receive full sunlight all day and areas with a lot of shade, so you must consider which plants are suited to your outdoor spaces.

Choose a color scheme.

img

You might decide to start your design plan with a color scheme instead of specific plants. Landscapers may prioritize colors if they’re working on a design for public spaces and want to reflect the state’s flag colors or if they want to use a company’s brand colors for public spaces outside their offices.

Homeowners may also start with colors because they want to complement their house or other features on their property. It’s also possible you’ll start with colors because you have a strong preference for specific color schemes.

Consider your needs.

img

English ivy is just one of the many poisonous plants for dogs while daffodils are an example of a toxic plant for cats. Eliminate any toxic plants to protect your pets when you’re developing your landscaping plan.

Many plants absorb chemicals and other toxins and produce clean air. You may opt to focus on plants that will improve your outdoor air quality. You may also concentrate on selecting plants that produce specific fragrances you enjoy.

Landscape architects can help you come up with the perfect landscaping design. Generate ideas by checking out properties in your neighborhood and horticultural sites. You may narrow your choices based on your color preferences or other factors, such as whether the plants are safe for pets.

What are the disadvantages of an ISA account?

An ISA (Individual Savings Account) is a tax-exempt account that can be opened and managed by one person. The funds deposited in an ISA cannot be used as collateral; it should only serve as a savings tool for future use.

ISA accounts include cash, stocks and shares, innovative finance and lifetime individual savings accounts (Lisa). Cash ISAs are the most common type of ISA, with interest rates varying based on whether or not the provider has been granted ‘scheme’ status from the government. Generally, higher interest rates equate to less favourable terms, such as limiting withdrawals to just once annually.

Anyone over the age of 16 can open an ISA account regardless of their employment status. There is no maximum income that one must earn to open an ISA account; however, anyone with a personal income of more than £100,000 annually cannot have a cash ISA as they do not earn enough to benefit from tax-exempt accounts.

Disadvantages associated with having an ISA account

There are several disadvantages associated with having an ISA account, including:

Low-interest rates

The best-advertised accounts have interest rates below 1%. This means it will take close to 30 years for your savings to double. However, these accounts often come with restrictions such as limiting you from withdrawing funds or charging high fees for withdrawals and deposits into the account outside of those permitted by ISA providers. ·

Unpredictable inflation rate

While the interest rates of ISA savings accounts are fixed, they fail to compensate for inflation. This means your money will buy less than it would in an average savings account.

Not easily accessible

Withdrawing funds from an ISA requires contacting the provider and often comes with high fees. There is also a limit of one withdrawal per year allowed without penalty.

Exposure to market uncertainty

Unlike pension savings, where you can withdraw funds when needed (and penalties won’t apply), withdrawals made before age 60 will forfeit any interest accrued in the account.

Income tax implications

If you do not use all of your allowances in cash ISAs, the remainder becomes taxable income subject to income tax. Coupled with a tax on the interest your money earns, you could be taxed up to 38.1% on any gains.

No quick investments

If you have no savings currently but want to invest your money quickly to start gaining interest, then putting your money into an ISA could be a waste of time as it would take years before anything was earned. Also, if you have to pay a lot of tax, then the returns from ISAs may not be as appealing. In that case, it is better to invest outside an ISA for better returns.

Advantages of an ISA account

Most people use an ISA account as a form of long-term savings, where they earn interest on their money without paying any tax. If you invest £10,000 inside a cash ISA at a 2% rate of return per year, then in theory, after 25 years, your money would be worth £22,942 – which is approximately £12,942 more than if you had paid tax on your earnings. Even though rates had fallen significantly since 2008 when banks were offering accounts with annual interest rates often over 5%, they are still very attractive to savers.

One major reason for this is the wide range of ISA providers. The main ones include National Savings and Investments (which offers Premium Bonds), cash accounts with all banks and building societies, plus stocks and shares ISAs mainly sold by investment brokers – who often provide very competitive rates on these products due to their high availability in the market. All these options allow you to choose what works best for you. Some people, however, believe that Isas are not beneficial to everyone.

Finally

ISAs are a good way of getting started with saving. However, many alternatives are available to investors that don’t limit their access to funds or accrue income tax, such as regular savings accounts and easy access to cash ISAs. New investors interested in a uk isa account are advised to use a reputable online broker from Saxo Bank.

The Complete Guide That Makes Increasing Your Reading Speed Simple

Did you know that the average reading speed is approximately 300 words per minute?

People who can speed read, however, can easily double that result. A fast reader has a higher potential to be a smart professional because they can access and process information faster than others. You can easily outpace your competitors.

Becoming a faster reader requires more than reading a lot. Discover more techniques and tips to boost your reading speed with our list below:

Use a Tracker

The first step is to use a tracker. Some people underline words and sentences using a pen. Others take a straight edge, such as a ruler, and then descend as they keep on reading.

Reading with a tracker is helps keep you moving. The tracker prevents you from suddenly getting lost. You won’t waste time trying to figure out which line you were last reading, helping you keep the momentum moving down.

It also stops you from going back to reread previous lines, called regressing. We’ll tackle the issue of rereading in a separate segment below.

Don’t Talk to Yourself

Your inner voice is a major antagonist when it comes to speed reading. You should try to stop talking to yourself while reading.

If you wait for your inner voice to read the words out loud, you’ll slow yourself down. Before you know it, you might end up reading out loud, using your mouth. Physically reading is a lot slower than reading silently in your head.

There are a few ways of preventing your inner voice from getting in the way. One oft-suggested method is to chew on something while reading. Chewing and constantly moving your tongue will cut down the physical act of reading, keeping the process solely in your head.

Bookmark Reading Content

Every time you find something difficult or voluminous to read, bookmark it. It’s easy to bookmark pages on Windows. For Apple users, here’s a short but in-depth guide regarding bookmarks on Mac.

Bookmarking difficult text is a good way to re-test your reading speed. Even if you read a particular page before, you won’t be able to immediately memorize every word and line. To further prevent getting accustomed to a page’s content, cycle through dozens of bookmarks when performing a speed reading test.

What kind of content should you bookmark? Focus on pages with tons of difficult words, jumbled sections, and multiple headers. This ensures you can practice a lot of the other tips on this list.

Don’t Reread Text

Regressing is the process of going back to reread text you already passed. Speed readers never go back to reread passages they already went through.

Instead of rereading, force yourself to just push forward and keep reading. Don’t worry about comprehension. Your brain will catch up and process the blocks of information as you continue reading.

Group Words Together

One of the best tips to speed read is to chunk several words together. Instead of reading a line word per word, it’s a lot faster to process words as a group. Your brain will automatically process the meaning of those words due to their association.

You can start with simple paragraphs first. Some speed readers start practicing this method by reading children’s books. Focus on books with a lot of rhymes so you can sort out confusing chunks and prevent yourself from misreading lines.

As you get better at grouping words while speed reading, start focusing on more difficult lines. A good suggestion is to speed read fiction books, particularly science fiction and fantasy books. Books like The Lord of the Rings, Dune, and the Harry Potter books are all great selections.

Improve Peripheral Vision

The next step is to start reading from the center. This is perhaps one of the harder techniques to master. Since childhood, people learn to read from left to right.

Reading from the center doesn’t mean you can’t fully absorb the whole length of the text. Your peripheral vision should be able to capture the gist of the words located at the sides. If you practice reading chunks of words, your brain will automatically be able to piece the sides and the center phrases together.

One way to practice this is to start with thinner paragraphs. Copy a bunch of text you want to read, open a new MS Word or Google Docs document, and paste it. Adjust the margin, making it larger, to group the words closer to the center.

As you get better, decrease the margin size. This will spread the words further to the sides.

Enhance Your Vocabulary

Are you still struggling a bit to comprehend what you sped through? One of the biggest obstacles when trying to understand what you read is your vocabulary. The more words you know, the easier it will be for your brain to piece the information and meaning together no matter how fast you read.

Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to boost your vocabulary. Some people focus on reading literature. Others like to read through a thesaurus and dictionary.

One fun way to boost your vocabulary is to take a word and then create two separate lists in your head. The first list should focus on words that rhyme with the first word you came up with. Make sure to keep increasing the number of syllables in the words you list down.

The next list should focus on synonyms and antonyms. This will help increase your understanding of the word.

Time Yourself

Do you want to test your speed reading skills? Get a timer. At a specific time per day, get some of the most difficult passages you already bookmarked and keep reading.

When the timer buzzes, stop reading. Using your mouse, select all the passages you read and use an extension or tool to quickly perform a word count. Aim to increase the word count each day.

Boost Your Reading Speed Today

Now you know how to become a faster reader.

Boosting your reading speed isn’t impossible as long as you follow these tips. Don’t reread; stop your inner reading voice, use a tracker, and read from the center. Enhance your vocabulary and chunk words as a group while reading.
